David Wells, the portly former major league pitcher, recently revealed that steroid-freak (and all around douche) Jose Canseco once tried to get him on HGH to help his ailing back.
Surprisingly Wells declined.
This comes on the heels of Wells’ statements last month that since he never took or was tempted to take steroids he can pass judgment on those that have–and his belief is that Major League Baseball should impose a lifetime ban on anyone testing positive for a banned substance.
Not this 50 games shit…out for good.
In his argument, Boomer raises the point, “Did Pete Rose get a second chance? Did Shoeless Joe Jackson get a second chance?”
Getting back to the Canseco thing, Wells told the NY Daily News that although he had plenty of opportunities to use PED’s, he never was interested. Canseco and Wells were teammates on the White Sox in 2001 when the offer of HGH came up to help with Wells’ ailing back. He was limited to 100 2/3 innings that year, and posted a 5-7 record. Canseco suggested that HGH would help Wells get back on track.
Wells, who never could say no to a free beer and buffet lunch, took the high road with Canseco and refused.
“I didn’t need to do that and I wasn’t going to do that,” Wells said Saturday. “That stuff is not good for the game and it is not good for your body.”
Good for Boomer for speaking his mind and telling it like it is…something a lot of former and current major leaguer’s are afraid to do. [NY Daily News]
