Lost in the sports pages was the mention of a civil suit filed last week in Washoe County, Nevada, by one Andrea McNulty, against one Ben Roethlisberger.
Yes, that Ben Roethlisberger…quarterback of the Steelers, two-time Super Bowl champ, and crappy motorcycle driver.
At the time nothing was really made of the suit, until today. Thanks to Pro Football Talk, the best site for NFL news and rumors (and one site I visit daily), the details of McNulty’s suit against Roethlisberger are coming to light.
And they ain’t pretty.
McNulty, a Harrah’s employee, alleges that Big Ben sexually assaulted her. The suit claims Roethlisberger asked McNulty back to his room to fix his TV, then forced her to have sex with him.
She also claims that coworkers named in said suit defamed her by making allegedly false and inflammatory statements, and that they acted as aiders and abettors for the Steeler’s QB’s inappropriate conduct.
Roethlisberger faces numerous civil counts, including sexual assault and battery, false imprisonment, and fraud, among others.
Roethlisberger, through his lawyer David Cornwell, flatly denies the allegations (has there ever been an athlete/celebrity accused of sexual assault who’s come out and said, “Yeah, I did it. My bad.”).
“Ben has never sexually assaulted anyone; especially Andrea McNulty,” Cornwell said in a statement released to Pro Football Talk.
We’ll have to wait and see how this all turns out. If the case drags on into the season, it could serve as a huge distraction to Big Ben and the Steelers as they try to win another Super Bowl.
