Sad story out of Nashville, Tennessee today, as former Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens quarterback Steve McNair was found dead today, killed by an apparent gunshot wound to the head.
He was 36.
In what is being called a “double homicide,” McNair and a unknown female victim were found earlier today in a residence in downtown Nashville, both had been shot to death.
The female victim has been tentatively identified, but police are waiting until next of kin have been notified before releasing the victim’s name.
Bud Adams Jr., owner of the Titans, released this statement via the team’s website…
“We are saddened and shocked to hear the news of Steve McNair’s passing today. He was one of the finest players to play for our organization and one of the most beloved players by our fans. He played with unquestioned heart and leadership and led us to places that we had never reached, including our only Super Bowl. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family as they deal with his untimely passing.”
Nicknamed “Air” McNair, the QB was the third overall pick in the 1995 draft, taken by coach Jeff Fisher and the Houston Oilers. The Oilers moved to Tennessee, eventually changing their name to the Titans. McNair became the face of the franchise, and earned high praise from teammates, coaches and opposing players for his toughness. He was named co-MVP in 2003, sharing the award with Peyton Manning.
In 2006, McNair was sent to the Baltimore Ravens for a 4th round pick. He spent his final two season with the Ravens before announcing his retirement in April 2008.
Our thoughts go out to Steve McNair’s family at this time. He will be missed. [NewsChannel5.com]
