There’s been a few developments since it was reported that Ben Roethlisberger was accused of sexual assault in a civil suit.
First of all, Roethlisberger’s accuser, Andrea McNulty had been receiving psychiatric care…but according to sources, it had nothing to do with the Roethlisberger alleged incident.
Nope, according to a co-worker’s of McNulty, she sought out psychiatric help because she fell in love…with a made-up person.
No, seriously.
According to a report on TMZ, about the time McNulty claims she was assaulted by Roethlisberger, she was apparently seeing a married man. The man’s wife became suspicious, created an email account whereby she posed as an U.S. soldier stationed in Iraq. McNulty began corresponding with the phantom soldier, told friends they were engaged, then said he was killed in action when the wife stopped responding to McNulty’s emails.
Wow. I doubt very much this helps McNulty’s credibility, if it is in fact a true story.
Secondly, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell plans to look into the allegations against Ben Roethlisberger. No surprise there.
Thirdly, at this time there are no plans to investigate Roethlisberger, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be. If McNulty or a third party witness (although none exist) file criminal charges against Big Ben, then there would be a criminal investigation. Of course, the statute of limitations to file criminal charges could expire, and the point would be moot.
Finally (yes, finally), what the f–k is up with ESPN. Apparently the ‘E’ stands for eventually, because it took the sports media giant a full 2 days to comment on the story, hiding behind some lame policy regarding reporting of civil lawsuits not accompanied by criminal charges…unless, of course that civil suit involves anyone not named Ben Roethlisberger (right Roberto Alomar?).
I’ll be keeping a close eye on this story as it progresses, that’s for damn sure.
