Giants Top Prospect Suspected of Murder

Angel Villalona

Can hit for power…check.

Can hit for average…check.

Good defensive first baseman…check.

Handy with the steel…check?

Giants prospect Angel Villalona, ranked No. 48 in MLB.com’s preseason Top 50 prospects list, is being detained in the Dominican Republic after being arrested for murder.  Villalona, who was signed by the Giants at 16-years-old, receiving a $2.1 million signing bonus at the time, is the prime suspect in the shooting death of 25-year-old Mario Felix de Jesus Velete.

If convicted, Villalona could face up to 20 years in prison.

Still, this signing is still better than the Barry Zito signing.
