I’m not a Skins fan by any stretch of the imagination, but the more I see and read about Chris Cooley, the more I am loving this guy.
Genuinely funny, honest, not afraid to poke fun at himself…he’s like me, before the weight of the world and the responsibilities of family sucked the life out of me and waking up every morning became a struggle of monumental proportions…but I digress.
To summarize, Chris Cooley is awesome. So is his brother Tanner. And so is Chris’ blog.
For anyone who missed the Monday nighter, Chris got the sad cart ride off the field after snapping his ankle against the Eagles.
Well, October 28th was surgery day for Chris, and, well, it’s all highlighted on his blog…with before and after pictures.
And one wild X-ray.
Christy, Chris’ wife, and Tanner drove Cooley to the hospital in Baltimore where they were met by coach Jim Zorn, nattily dressed in a sports coat and sneakers, a la Jerry Seinfeld…but without Seinfeld’s money and fan adoration.
The surgery, which consisted of 5 punctures in the ankle in order to place 3 hollow tubes through the fractured tibia, went smoothly.
Here’s an X-ray of Chris’ ankle after the procedure…
That is nasty looking, even for an x-ray.
Of course, leave it to Tanner Cooley to add a little levity to the situation.
For those of you not fortunate enough to have a career in the medical field, let me tell you, patients coming out of anaesthesia are friggin’ hilarious.
Gone is that filter between your brain and mouth, so that pretty well anything and everything spills out for all to hear.
Which is exactly what happened with Chris as he was coming around, according to Tanner.
The younger Cooley can’t repeat all that was said, but he did share the funniest line that Chris said to the nurse looking after him.
First Chris told her he could never forgive her for what she did. In response, she asked what she could do to make it up to him.
“I wanna hold you down and twist your ankle!”
Tanner’s description of the entire day is a good read. As an added bonus, there’s audio of a still loopy Chris chatting with a radio show host about the day’s events.
So go read it yourself. It’s worth it. Here’s the link.
But make sure you come back here, goddamnit.
And thanks Chris Cooley…you make each day a little brighter.
Now where’s that bottle of Scotch. [The Official Blog of Chris Cooley]
