Greg Louganis Omitted From British Website for Being a Gay African-American?

October is Black History Month in Britain, and one writer took it upon himself to berate the UK Black History Month website for not including many historical black figures who were gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.

One of the most surprising admissions was Malcolm X’s alleged bisexuality.

The author of the piece, Peter Tatchell, then goes on to list many black figures who were not recognized on the website, allegedly due to their sexual orientation.

Including…

  1. the aforementioned Malcolm X
  2. jazz-singer Billie Holiday
  3. singer Luther Vandross
  4. writer Alice Walker
  5. singer Little Richard
  6. Olympic diver Greg Louganis

Wait…what?

I think I can shed some light as to why Louganis wasn’t recognized on the UK Black History Month website.  Gay he is, black he’s not.  Unless in Britain being of Swedish/Samoan descent makes you black…which it probably doesn’t.

Dude, do some research. [Guardian UK]
