More Allegations Against Miguel Cabrera

It’s been one helluva week for Tigers star Miguel Cabrera.  His team nearly choked away a three game lead in the AL Central with only four games to play, setting up an exciting, win and you’re in, one game playoff against the Minnesota Twins.

Then the news broke about Cabrera’s off-field shenanigans…involving a fight with his wife, and a blood alcohol level of .260–three times the legal limit in Michigan.  As if the drunken brawling with his wife wasn’t bad enough, the timing of it all couldn’t have been worse.  This incident took place last Saturday, in between two key games against the Chicago White Sox, as the Tigers were desperately trying to hang on to first place.

After Detroit GM Dave Dombrowski bailed Cabrera’s drunken ass out of jail at 5 a.m., the slugger went 0-4 and stranded six runners in a 5-1 loss to Chicago.

Not exactly the kind of model behavior you want to see from one of your key players…and that’s putting it mildly.

But it doesn’t end there for Miguel.  New allegations have surfaced that Cabrera, according to a police report, was out drinking at the Townsend Hotel (the same place he was boozing the night he fought with his wife) in late August, when he began taunting another patron at the hotel.

The alleged victim–an overweight 15-year-old-boy.

One witness said Cabrera “acted as if he was on some drug,” while other witnesses said that Cabrera’s taunting of the chubby teen and his friends became so heated that Miguel challenged the entire table to a fight…then acted as if he had a gun.

Obviously a more in-depth investigation into this incident will come eventually.

Until then, you stay classy Miguel Cabrera.

Go Twins. [Fannation]
