It looks like the pressure may be getting to Packers coach Mike McCarthy.  His team is 4-4, they just got beat by the winless Bucs, and now they have to tackle the suddenly red-hot Dallas Cowboys.  The fans are unhappy, and they’re calling for McCarthy’s fat ass to be fired.

So how does McCarthy relieve his stress?  He gets Lambeau field workers fired.

Enter Mike Wood, 22-year member of the maintenance crew at Lambeau field, and life-long Packers fan.  Working for the Packers on gameday was his dream job.

Well, it was, until Mike McCarthy got his panties in a bunch over something Wood supposedly said.

Three days before the most over-hyped game of the year, against Brett Favre and the Vikings, Wood, while sitting in a maintenance cart in one of the stadium tunnels, shouted something to McCarthy as he was talking with some members of the grounds crew.

What did Wood say that got him fired?

“Get to work fat ass!”

Ummm…no.

Wood yelled to the coach, “Hey coach, let’s get the boys ready to kick some butt this weekend.”

And, according to Wood, that was it.

The next day at work was business as usual.

Then came game day, November 1st, and when Wood arrived at the stadium to begin working, he was questioned by the team’s field manager as to what he had said to McCarthy.

Wood told him exactly what he had said.  Of course, that’s not how McCarthy heard it.  Somewhere along the way, McCarthy claimed Wood said something like “don’t lay an egg.”

And for that Wood was fired.

Real fucking nice Packers…real fucking nice.

Wood cried over what happened, realizing his dream job was over.  For the first time in 22 years, he had to watch the game on TV.  Obviously the man is crushed.

The Packers released this statement…

“The organization has standards of conduct that apply to all employees, full-time and part-time, in order to maintain a respectful workplace. Mr. Wood’s supervisors determined he made an inappropriate comment, and he was relieved of his duties.”

This move isn’t going to win Mike McCarthy or the Packers any fans.  If a comment like “don’t lay an egg” gets the head coach all pissed-off, then maybe he’s too thin-skinned to be coaching in the NFL.  The fans are already turning against him, and Green Bay is your quintessential working-man’s town.  This story is sure to strike a chord with the many blue-collar fans the Packers have.

This was a douche move, by a douche head coach of a now-douche organization.

And since Mike Wood probably has too much class to say it, I’ll say it for him..
