Ron Artest’s Halftime Drink Used to be From the Top Shelf

Untitled8

Some men like their liquor straight up, some like it on the rocks, while others like it mixed with a little soda or water.

Ron Artest liked his at halftime.

“I used to drink Hennessy … at halftime,” Artest says in the interview. “I (kept it) in my locker. I’d just walk to the liquor store (near the stadium) and get it.”

Awww…yeah.

Hey, even the best of us have had a little Jack and Coke to get us through those long, drawn-out business meetings.  Actually, I’m drunk right now.

In an upcoming interview with the Sporting News, Artest let the words flow out of him like mustard.

Along with the drinking revelation, Artest had this to say about his role in the infamous Malice at the Palace brawl in 2004…

“It wasn’t my fault. … I don’t see anything I could have done different. The only thing I could have done was have God pause time so I could have said, ‘Oh, look, you’re about to run in some stands, so stop.’ “

On Ben Wallace, whom Artest fouled to ignite the brawl in the first place…

“I see Ben, I’m on my guard now. I’m always in the mood to fight him. … I’ll get suspended 10 games, 15 games (because) I’ll just fight him right there. It won’t go into the stands.”

And finally, on his plans to take up boxing…

“I started training two years ago. In four years, I’m going to try to have my first fight.”

Funny thing is, none of this is shocking or outrageous, when you consider the source.  Ron Artest has been, and probably always will be, a little left-of-center.  Hell, even he admits he wasn’t all that mentally stable his first few years in the NBA.  Remember, this is the guy who filled out an application at a Chicago Circuit City, in order to get the employee discount.

Ron Artest–shine on, you crazy sandwich.
