Friends of the Fan: 27pitches

It’s official.

This damn website now has more friends than I did in high school…and college…and now.  And that’s just alright with me.  Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned in the short time I’ve had this site up and running, it’s that there are perks to being part of a community–in this case a sports blog community.

Which brings us to 27pitches.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll continue to say it–most sites do it better than we do.  And 27pitches is no exception.  Their mission is simple, yet effective–to call attention to stories that they think fly under the radar, or simply point out websites and interesting facts that slip through the cracks.  At 27pitches, you won’t find AP style recaps, or breaking news stories…that’s what ESPN is for.

And it seems to be working for them just fine.

Initially created by Sean Johnson back in February 2009, 27pitches had modest ambitions.  All Sean wanted was a place for friends and family to stop by and read his musings, maybe even going so far as to join in a conversation or two.  But when you consistently produce well-written, humorous articles, you’re going to start having more than friends and family visiting your site.  How well-written?  Besides 27pitches, Sean also blogs about the Eagles on NFL.com…along with another contributor to the site, Brandon Kopceuch, who also blogs for NFL.com.

Pretty impressive indeed.

In spite of all his success, Sean has remained humbled, and is ever appreciative of his readers loyalty.  Just read this quote and see…

Thanks to the support of friends and family, this blog has been far more successful than I could have ever anticipated, and I am very thankful for all the readers who visit and contact me regularly. I hope to continue to keep the content interesting and relevant, perhaps even getting a few laughs in the process.

So head on over to 27pitches to see what a real sports blog should look like.  You can thank me later.
