It’s a DC vs. Marvel Super Hero Bowl–Geeks Rejoice!

In one of those rare comic book geek/football lover crossover moments, Mania, a site that bills itself as “beyond entertainment” went and put together the Super Hero Bowl.  That’s right, it’s Marvel vs. DC, set to clash for gridiron bragging rights.

Stupid right?  Well, yes and no.  Actually more no than anything.  I’m kind of amazed that I liked this so much.  Terrified really, since I’ve been trying to come across as both professional AND mature–but as soon as someone combined football and superheroes, I popped a boner.

The big names are all there, with pictures set against a football field background, with a write-up on each player. Hell, if this were broadcast at the same time as the real Super Bowl, I’d probably be more inclined to watch this.

Some highlights…

  • the battle of QB’s has Superman for DC up against the Mighty Thor for Marvel.  Edge obviously goes to DC…it’s freaking Superman for pete’s sake.
  • DC has the edge at wide receiver as well, with Plastic Man and the Flash, vs. Marvel’s duo of Spiderman and the Silver Surfer.
  • Marvel boasts the superior offensive line, with teh Hulk, the Thing, Colossus, Hercules and She-Hulk protecting Thor.
  • Marvel’s secondary of the Green Goblin, Venom, Sabretooth and the Lizard is a weakness on defense that DC’s explosive offense can exploit.
  • Marvel definitely wins when it comes to the coaching staff.  Head coach Charles Xavier is smarter than DC’s head coach Batman, plus he has the ability to read people’s minds.

But don’t just take my word for it–embrace your inner nerd and head over to Mania and make your own judgements.  Or make fun of them for coming up with this–either way it’ll give you the excuse you need to check it out.
