Virginia Tech-Maryland Game Delayed Because of Near-Epic Disaster

Seems the Saturday college hoops game between the Maryland Terrapins and the Virginia Tech Hokies was delayed for 2 1/2 hours due to some unforeseen, and nearly tragic, circumstances.

You college kids, and former students as well, will understand what I mean when you hear what went down.  Apparently a wayward truck ran over a fire hydrant, which fractured the water line running into Tech’s Cassell Coliseum.  This set off a chain reaction of water line problems, which pushed back the game’s start time from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

But this was no ordinary truck.  No sir, this was a beer truck, carrying a mess of the golden lager to an alumni fundraiser that took out the fire hydrant.  Now you understand the tragedy angle of this story.  Because nothing is as heart-wrenching as scores of smashed beer bottles littering the highway.

Oh the humanity!

But thankfully none of the beer was damaged, spilled or otherwise, which was great news for the alumni, but not so great for the thirsty students looking to score some free suds on a Saturday afternoon.

Word is that the beer itself was cases upon cases of Bud Light–which may be vile swill to some, but to destitute college students, it would’ve been the best kind of beer…free.
