Pending the approval of Missouri Governor Jay Nixon, Cards fans won’t have the luxury of cruising down Mark McGwire Highway anymore, now that the Missouri House of Representatives have passed legislation to have the tarnished slugger’s name removed from a stretch of the I-70. McGwire’s name will be replaced with that of famous American author Mark Twain.
Apparently fans have been calling for the change ever since Big Mac’s admission of steroid use in January, following years of speculation. And for once, the government followed the people’s wishes…at Mark McGwire’s expense. Honestly, I don’t see McGwire splitting any hairs over this latest slight, especially since his return to the St. Louis Cardinals as their hitting coach has been, for the most part, well-received.
Are the fans, and now the Missouri government, just being petty? Or are they taking a stand against cheaters and liars who sully the good name of baseball? Therein lies the debate, and since I could care less either way, I won’t bother sharing my opinion.
Heck, I doubt it’ll even get a mention in Mark McGwire’s Hall of Fame spee…oh, wait.
Never mind.
