Croatian Nursing Home the Latest Site of World Cup Inspired Bloodshed

Maybe it’s a good thing that the World Cup only comes around once every four years, considering that the tournament is only nine days old and already we’re doing yet another World Cup related murder horrific act of violence story.

Much like the story of the man killed by his family for watching the World Cup, this too is related to a difference of opinion regarding channel surfing during the tourney.  Only this time the victim and his alleged attacker are residents of a nursing home in Petrinja, Croatia.

Good news–the victim didn’t die.  Bad news–his roommate stuffed his mouth with a towel before getting all stabby.

The pensioner stuffed a towel in his roommate’s mouth before stabbing him repeatedly.

He then hid in the basement, where he was later discovered by police.

The wounded man was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The attacker is being charged with attempted murder.

Yikes.  I wonder how far the stabber would have gone had Croatia actually been in the tournament?

I am puzzled by one thing though–why the towel in the mouth?  Surely the sound of his victim screaming in agony would have been more pleasing than the annoying buzz of 30,000 vuvuzelas.  Crass?  Sure, but if there’s a bad vuvuzela joke, I’ve yet to hear it.
