Hey look, another athlete in trouble with the law! Well, kind of, but not really.
Sacramento Kings guard Tyreke Evans, the current NBA Rookie of the Year, was cited for reckless driving on Monday, after being clocked doing 100 mph in a 65 mph zone. Another 50 feet or so and Evans might’ve broken the sound barrier.
Cops pulled over the black Mercedes-Benz S550 and ordered Evans and his passenger out of the car…at gunpoint. Really? That seems a bit excessive to me, but the only experience I have with the California Highway Patrol is the old episodes of CHiPS I used to watch as a kid. And all I remember about that was Erik Estrada’s hypnotizing teeth–my god, those were the whitest set of teeth I’ve ever seen.
Evans and his compatriot were briefly detained, but eventually released after cooperating with police. The Kings guard was found not to be under the influence of any drugs or alcohol.
Still, 35 mph over the limit is a bit much. Evans is just 20-years-old, still a kid really, and a seemingly good one at that–here’s hoping this was just a one-time, albeit stupid, mistake.
