Former Mets, Royals Pitcher Charged With Kidnapping, Attempted Murder
Ambiorix Burgos, former pitcher for the Royals and Mets, has been charged by the Dominican Republic police with the kidnapping and attempted murder of his ex-wife, Dilenia Reynoso.
But this is not your ordinary “kidnap and try and kill your ex” story. No it is not.
Burgos allegedly abducted his former wife from the home of a local prosecutor she was staying with for protection after she had received death threats from Burgos.
So there’s that…and then there’s this.
Apparently Burgos really wanted to make his ex-wife suffer, because she says he tried to kill her by force feeding her—wait for it—rat poison.
Burgos pitched for the Kansas City Royals from 2005-06, and started the season with the New York Mets in 2007 before being demoted to Triple-A. The 26-year-old has had previous brushes with the law–in 2008 prosecutors dropped the charges against Burgos in a fatal hit-and-run, and last year Burgos was sentenced to nine months in jail for assaulting his girlfriend.
A Dominican judge has ordered Burgos to remain in jail for the next three months while prosecutors prepare their case. Hopefully they can make an airtight case against this scumbag, and send him to prison for a long, long time…where I’m sure he’ll make the switch from pitcher to “catcher” fairly quickly and painfully.
