Classic Auctions is auctioning off a ton of notable hockey memorabilia this month, ranging from game worn jerseys and game used sticks, to actual seats from Chicago Stadium and the old Montreal Forum. Other items include cards, replica rings, the door to the visitor’s bench from the Montreal Forum, antique skates, and a really boss Bobby Orr lunchbox and puzzle set.
And then we come to item No. 90…Yvan Cournoyer’s partial dental plate.
Wait…what?
Cournoyer, a 10-time Stanley Cup winner while with the Habs, wore this partial plate during his playing days, which I guess makes this item game used as well. Crazy part is that bidding for this one-of-a-kind piece of hockey memorabilia started at $250.
Even crazier—two people have bid on the fake teeth.
Make the icing call, Classic Auctions…
Take a peek inside the Roadrunner’s beak; these are indeed Yvan Cournoyer’s chompers! Definitely unique, this partial dental plate appears to be in fine condition to us, although we’re not denturists. With inherent value in its white gold framework alone, this one-of-a-kind piece of hockey memorabilia features 10 false teeth, including four pearly whites across the front of the partial denture, no doubt replacements for teeth knocked out by flying pucks, wayward sticks and careless elbows. Though the rare photo exists of the 10-time Stanley Cup champion flashing a virtually toothless grin, Hall of Famer Cournoyer wore this vintage plate during his playing days to ensure a million-dollar smile for his action shots. Obtained directly from Yvan Cournoyer, whose signed letter of authenticity comes with this truly unique collectible.
To each his own I guess. I’m all for getting my hands on unique pieces of memorabilia, but even I find this one a bit too much. And that’s saying a lot, seeing that I’m the guy who spent $3400 on the toupee Burt Reynolds sported in Smokey and the Bandit II.
