Aussie Open Ball Boy Narrowly Misses Taking a Shot to the Side of the Head

Between the ball girl called upon for emergency pest removal duty, and now this young man nearly having his head taken off by an Alexander Kudryavtsev two-handed backhand, it’s been a fairly rough week for the ball boys and girls of the Australian Open.

The youngster was stationed at the base of the umpire’s chair when Kudryavtsev’s shot nearly decapitated the young man during a first round match against Roger Federer. The ball came within six inches or so of striking the unsuspecting ball boy in the side of the head, and had it hit, probably would have done some prolific damage to the lad’s noggin. Fortunately the shot missed, and like a trooper, our intrepid ball boy performed his tennis ball wrangling duties as normal.

Still, I bet that kid hopes he never experiences a near-miss like that one again.
