Shaq’s Math Skills, Like His Free Throw Shooting, Leaves a Lot to be Desired

"2+2=5, and you can suck on that..."

Recently on TNT’s Inside the NBA, the guys were discussing Magic center Dwight Howard’s regular-season NBA record 39 free throw attempts against the Golden State Warriors this past Thursday.  Howard was good on 21 of the 39 attempts from the charity line, and despite the Warriors’ attempt at incorporating the old “Hack-a-Shaq” routine against the Magic superstar, they still fell 117-109.

Speaking of Shaq, it was mentioned on the broadcast that he too was sent to the free throw line 39 times once, only Shaq’s came in the 2000 NBA finals against the Pacers.  O’Neal made 18 of his 39 attempts, and according to the Big Aristotle’s math skills, that equates to a free throw shooting percentage of over 50%.

*carry the one, find the square root, denominator…wait, that’s not right*

Sorry Shaq, but new math, old math, whatever math, 18 for 39 is just 46%.  The best part is that he seems so damn sure of himself, throwing 50% out there with such confidence.  Fortunately his TNT colleagues call him on his awful math skills, which leads to much guffawing all around.

Video follows the jump (via That NBA Lottery Pick)…

As Charles Barkley might say, “turrible Shaq…just turrible.”
