OK, so maybe it was the ref hitting his head on the white object, but still, two fat guys in diapers rolling around in a dirt ring, or dohyō if you will, and the guy who gets destroyed is the little dude in the dress?  How is that fair? And why isn’t the ring bigger, based on the size of those giant, fighting babies?

The referee,  Shozaburo Kimura, was officiating a match between wrestlers Baruto and Wakakoyu when the nasty spill happened.  Kimura suffered a concussion, but is otherwise OK.

The scariest moment of the day, however, was when gyoji (referee) Shozaburo Kimura took a nasty spill in ozeki Baruto’s bout against Wakakoyu and was left unconscious at ringside before he had to be carted out of the auditorium on a stretcher by sumo officials.

“This has never happened before in sumo. I guess things like this can happen,” said Hakuho, referring to referee Shozaburo, who later was revealed to have suffered a concussion. “I hope he is okay. He is a referee from my stable’s group. I wasn’t influenced by that, though, because I have to perform my best for the fans,” he said.

Taking into account the size of Kimura, and the enormousness of those two behemoths, why is the ring so elevated?  That’s just a sumo accident waiting to happen.
