Rangers fans beat out little kid for foul ball which leads to much sadness and crying

When it comes to people I’m an optimist in that I believe that in their hearts most folks are good and decent people.  Then something like this comes along and I realize that there are those among us that have zero class or decency and I go right back to questioning humanity.

A little overdramatic?  Probably, but when you watch this video and see why this little guy is crying you’ll understand where I was coming from with my soapbox rant.

During tonight’s Yankees/Rangers game, Texas right fielder Mitch Moreland tossed a ball into the stands, and as per usual the moment caused a frenzy amongst the fans, parents of this toddler included.  While they failed in coming up with the ball, the couple sitting right beside them did, then proudly showed off their shiny new trinket while the tiny Rangers fan’s cries rang in their ears.

I don’t know about you, but 10 times out of 10 that kid gets the ball from me, and not just to shut him up.  A souvenir baseball is nice, but seeing a child light up with joy following a touching, selfless gesture is 100 times more rewarding.

Here’s the video (via Jimmy Traina)…

Glad to see Michael Kay call out the self-absorbed couple, and glad to hear that the tyke ended up with a ball for himself, albeit a different ball from someone with a little more sensitivity and kindness than these two nominees for “Worst People in the World.”
