Behind the wheel of the expensive sports car smashing its way through the gas station convenience store in the video above is 25-year-old Jonathan Legear, a Belgian midfielder formerly of the Russian club Terek Grozny. Around 5:30 a.m. Sunday morning in the town of Tongeren, Belgium—where Legear was hanging out after finding out he wasn’t going to be playing for his Russian team anymore—the Belgian footballer used his Porsche to give the gas station store a drive-thru where no drive-thru existed.
Legear claims he wasn’t drunk…scratch that, he says he was only slightly drunk when he mistook the accelerator for the brake and crashed into the store. Amazingly only one person suffered minor injuries in the crazy accident which caused between 250,000 and 300,000 euros worth of damage, and I’m going to go out on a limb and say it was probably this guy was just minding his own business, trying to pay for his purchase when he got clipped by Legear’s car.
Legear has apologised for the crash, saying in a statement: “I am thinking particularly of those present at the time of the accident and those who could be affected at any level. I have already asked by advisors to contact them.
“I accept the consequences of the accident under the law.
“Contrary to the judgment already made by some media, I was not in a state of deep intoxication and my blood alcohol level was only slightly above the legal limit.”
Sorry Jonathan, but being only slightly above the legal limit is still above the legal limit, much like being a little bit pregnant means you’re still going to pop a kid out in nine months. This is going to be an even bigger deal than it already is becuase in 2009 Legear did nearly the same exact thing, when he drove his BMWX5 into a house. He served 50 hours community service for that transgression, so this time around the penalty should be significantly more severe, hopefully with an addendum that Legear not be allowed behind the wheel of a pricey sports car when he has a sad.
