Cricket highlights are few and far between on this site, mainly because a) I don’t understand Cricket all that much, and b) TV access to games is very, very limited. That being said, I’m not above featuring a Cricket post on this here blog, especially when the story basically writes itself.
Since it’s summer in the land Down Under, the Cricket season is in full effect. During a recent match in Adelaide, Australian cricketer Brad Haddin hit an absolute monster of a shot—the baseball equivalent of a long home run—into the stands, where it was smoothly caught by a fan with one hand. Why a one-handed grab? Because his other arm was carrying a load of food, not an ounce of which was dropped as he made his spectacular catch. Unlike American baseball, however, the fan immediately tossed the ball back onto the field. And yes, I know that in Chicago the fans throw home run balls hit by the opposing team back onto the field rather than keeping them as souvenirs, but even though it is definitely American, what the Cubs play is anything but baseball.
Oh yes, and take a look at the guy that snagged the ball without losing his expensive concession items….
Ridiculously photogenic Cricket guy? Ridiculously photogenic Cricket guy.
