That…that just ain’t right.
Well, this helps explain why Serena Williams came up short in her Australian Open quarterfinal match against Sloane Stephens. Serena tweeted out this picture of what is allegedly her right ankle, with a caption consisting of nothing more than the word ouch, an understatement if ever there was one. Trust me, ankles are never supposed to look like Popeye’s forearms with a foot growing out of them. Williams rolled her ankle during her first round match, and during her loss to Stephens on Wednesday her back started bothering her, an ailment she partially attributes to her injured ankle.
Said Serena (via The Telegraph)…
“I think the ankle started everything up the chain because I’m compensating and maybe it made my back hurt,” Williams said on Wednesday.
“A few days ago it just got really tight and I had no rotation on it. I went for this drop shot in the second set and it just locked up on me. I even screamed on the court. It was a little painful.”
If it’s any consolation to Serena, I screamed a little too when I saw that horrifically swollen ankle. Peed myself a little too, but that was for a totally different reason altogether.
