Only in Russia will you see referees fighting hockey players (VIDEO)

Even without the obvious clues you knew it had to be Russia.

refereeSomewhere in Russia, in a cold, sparsely populated hockey arena, two teams were battling for on-ice supremacy.  When a referee called a player for a hooking penalty, said player—who was apparently not in total agreement with the ref’s call—decided to bump the official that blew the whistle on him, sending the referee a tumbling to the ice, an obvious dick move if ever there was one.

Set revenge factor to Level 10 and engage.

Not content with either a) letting it go, or b) giving the player a misconduct penalty, the referee gets back to his feet, calmly removes his helmet and whistle, and unleashes his fury on the offending player. A dude from the opposing team steps in to try and play peacemaker by breaking things up (or help the ref, we’re not sure), which seems like an odd choice because the official seemed to be holding his own. Eventually the opposing player manages to separate the two combatants, and even though it’s just spitballing here, I’m going to say that only one of those guys received a fighting misconduct penalty, and it wasn’t the fella in the zebra costume.

Hell hath no fury like a Russian hockey ref scorned.
