Let’s celebrate the upcoming return of the NHL by watching this super duper cheap shot, courtesy Kelsey Wilson of the Nottingham Panthers, a team in Great Britain’s Elite Ice Hockey League. Wilson lays the lumber to the solar plexus of Simon Ferguson of the Sheffield Steelers, via a vicious two-handed slash as the unsuspecting Ferguson skates off the ice following a whistle.
Apparently they play a brand of good, old fashioned hockey in Great Britain that would make Eddie Shore proud…or completely disgusted.
Wilson was given a 3-game suspension for his misdeeds, but given the fact that his attack seemed unprovoked and his intent was to injure Ferguson, that number seems a bit low. A 15-game suspension minimum should have been doled out to Wilson, but a more appropriate action would have been to ban him altogether. Despite the game’s violent nature, there’s no place for crap like that in hockey.
