That’s a keeper.
Driving while under the influence of alcohol or any controlled substance is no laughing matter, even when it produces a strong contender for “Mugshot of the Year,” much like the above mugshot of Rockies first baseman Todd Helton, who was arrested for DUI early Wednesday morning in Thornton, Colorado. Bystanders noticed a black Ford pickup driving erratically around 2:00 am and notified the police, who proceeded to track down the vehicle driven by Helton and charge the Colorado slugger with DUI and careless driving.
Helton has since released a statement which doesn’t reference his hilarious mugshot in the least…
“Last evening I exercised poor judgment and was charged with drinking and driving after driving to a gas station near my house. I am very sorry and embarrassed by my actions. I hold myself to a high standard and take my responsibility as a public figure very seriously. My entire career I have worked to set a positive example for my family and in our community and I fell far short of this standard.
I sincerely ask my family, the Colorado Rockies Organization, Major League Baseball and the community to accept my apology. I make no excuses and accept full responsibility for my actions. I humbly ask your forgiveness.”
Now, about that mugshot Toddy boy—I am digging the mussed hair, double chin and the “this will not end well” look on his face. I highly recommend using it for your Christmas cards, Rockies media guide, and any other piece of identification that requires a photo.
