Even though it has yet to be verified by Twitter and their little blue check mark (but given the thumbs up by MLB’s Twitter account), I’m fairly confident this account belongs to future Hall of Fame pitcher, and current pitching coach for the USA Baseball team at the 2013 World Baseball Classic, Greg Maddux. Normally an athlete joining Twitter—or resurrecting a somewhat dormant account as Maddux has done—doesn’t warrant any sort of fanfare, but this time it’s different.
This time it’s personal.
Just kidding, it’s all about Maddux’s avatar, what with the godawful Christmas sweater and accompanying goofy look. Anytime a celeb or athlete posts a picture of themselves looking like a total and complete goofball on purpose, you can bet your ass it will get noticed.
Here is the offending profile pic, in all its glory…
So far there’s only six tweets and a retweet on Maddux’s account, which isn’t much of a body of work for a guy with 355 wins, four Cy Young awards, and that ridiculous sweater. Here’s hoping Maddux’s Twitter game is as strong as his choice in avatars. If his latest tweet, sent to former Braves teammate Chipper Jones is any indication, Maddux may soon be painting the corners again…with hilarity.
