Bulgarian soccer coach has epic meltdown, grabs ref’s cards and throws them away

card tosserAntoni Zdravkov, head coach of Botev Vratsa, a team in the top division of the Bulgarian football league system, has quite the fiery temper, as evidenced by his actions following a call that went against his team in a game versus CSKA Sofia. Incensed over a called handball in the box by defender Nikolay Marinov in the 17th minute—that ultimately saved a goal, albeit momentarily—Zdravkov, following CSKA Sofia forward Michel Platini’s successful penalty kick, snatched the referee’s cards and, after unsuccessfully trying to rip the laminated cards in pieces, threw them away in a fit of rage.

Petulant yes, but probably very stress relieving for the Vratsa head coach…until the final whistle that is, since his team fell to CSKA Sofia 4-3. Still, for one brief, shining moment, Antoni Zdravkov was living the dream of soccer coaches everywhere with his slightly inconveniencing, yet wholly childish, act of revenge.
