Jose Canseco tweets he’s been charged with rape, reveals name of accuser, deletes tweets

Jose CansecoThis may be the most bizarre set of tweets we’ve ever come across on Jose Canseco’s always interesting, never boring Twitter feed, and that’s saying something. Just a short while ago the disgraced slugger tweeted out to his 510,000 plus followers that he had been visited at his home by the Las Vegas police, and that he was being charged with rape. His accuser is claiming that Canseco drugged her then sexually assaulted her while she was unconscious.

Like the Mensa candidate that he is, not only did Canseco reveal this information on Twitter, but he also revealed the name of his accuser, a move that people with even the slightest bit of legal knowledge know is wrong. Canseco maintaining his innocence is fine, and even calling out his accuser anonymously is fine, but when a woman claims she was sexually assaulted, she has every right to keep her identity secret from the general public.

Here are the tweets, since removed, with the name of Canseco’s accuser blacked out for obvious reasons…

Canseco

Canseco 1

Canseco 2

Canseco 3

But it gets worse…while Canseco may have deleted the above four tweets, he went and posted photos of the woman accusing him of rape, as well as posting her phone number! Once again, I understand professing your innocence, because really, the court of public opinion will be against Canseco from the get-go, but this, this is not how you go about building your case. At the time of this writing the name, picture, and phone number of the woman in question are all still available for viewing by anyone with access to Twitter, but rest assured that Canseco’s legal team, providing they want their client to have a chance at winning this case, will be having those taken down shortly.

Rest assured though, so long as Canseco keeps running his own Twitter account, this thing will get real ugly, real quickly.

UPDATE: According to 8NewsNow KLAS-TV in Las Vegas, the 48-year-old Canseco has indeed been identified as a suspect in a sexual assault case

More details will be posted here once they become available.
