Carl Petterrson’s ball struck by wayward tee-shot during backswing

Carl PetterrsonSwedish golfer Carl Petterrson was finishing up his first round of the U.S. Open on Friday morning when he became the unwilling victim of a truly bizarre moment, when, as he lined up his second shot from the fairway of the 5th hole, a wayward tee shot by Brandon Crick—who was on the 2nd hole at the time—came rolling up the same fairway, striking Petterrson’s ball as he started his backswing.

This sort of weirdness might happen on a public course infested with hackers and duffers who are more full of alcoholic beverages than they are golf skill and etiquette, but not so much on the professional tour. Petterrson was allowed to return his ball to it’s original spot, and, despite having his concentration momentarily broken, would go on to par the hole.

Here’s video of the strange play (via The Big Lead)…

And your obligatory Vine…
