The Eagles DeSean Jackson is now officially a triple threat. No longer just an electric-yet-inconsistent punt returner and wide receiver, DeSean now also spits hot fire. He released his first rap single a few days ago, “Diamonds on my Neck” a track featuring a collaboration with Snoop Dogg and Yung Chris. If you’ve never heard of D10’s track-mates, that’s okay, Yung Chris is a up-and-coming rapper from Georgia, best known for his smash single “Racks” and Snoop Dogg is a former incarnation of the self-proclaimed Rastafarian “Snoop Lion”.
The video itself isn’t anything special. There are a few honeys, a few repetitive shots of Las Vegas, lots of diamonds on necks, and a few shots of DeSean Jackson doing his best impersonation of a 5’9″ 175-pound tough guy. But considering the quality of rap that has made it onto the radio in recent years, “Diamonds on my Neck” isn’t all that bad.
In fact, when you compare this to the hip-hop efforts of other famous athletes like Deion Sanders, Metta World-Peace and Shaquille O’Neal, DeSean Jackson just might be the best pro-athlete-to-rapper crossover yet.
In a season, like so many before it where the Eagles simply cannot afford any distractions whatsoever, it looks like DeSean has found a relatively positive outlet for all that extra energy. It It remains to be seen if the Eagles will play “Diamonds on my Neck” during their home games at Lincoln Financial Field. It wouldn’t be such a bad idea, it is a little catchy after all.
