Marlins reliever Chad Qualls’ celebratory fist pump doesn’t go as planned (GIF)

Marlins reliever Chad Qualls was pretty pumped to get out of the top of the 8th inning of Tuesday’s game against the Mets unscathed, despite giving up a leadoff triple to Marlon Byrd. Qualls struck out Ike Davis, induced a ground ball out to John Buck, then, following a walk to Juan Lagares, got Omar Quintanilla on a check swing to end the threat. Qualls finished his scoreless inning with a triumphant celebratory fist pump that went awry quickly and hilariously (via @thescottlewis)…

This Qualls gaffe would have been the Most Marlins thing ever had he not only fallen, but also blew out a knee or pulled a hamstring on the way down. As it turned out there was no injury other than Qualls’ bruised ego, and no win for Miami either, as they’d go on to drop the game 4-2 in extra innings.
