• Is Olympic champion Michael Phelps planning a comeback for the 2016 summer games?

  Following his unprecedented success at the 2012 London Olympics, American swimmer Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all time, said that he was hanging up his Speedo and retiring from the sport at 27 years of age.

  Then a rumor started circulating on Twitter that Phelps had a change of heart and planned on returning to the pool at the 2016 Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro. According to Peter Busch, the weeknight anchor for the NBC affiliate in Fort Myers, Florida, Phelps has confirmed, via a tweet, that yes indeed he will be returning for the next summer Olympic games.

• LSU’s Raph Rhymes finishes inside-the-park homer with unintentional somersault

  In the bottom of the 6th inning in their Thursday game against Ole Miss, LSU outfielder Raph Rhymes hit shot to the gap that got under the glove of outstretched Rebels centerfielder Auston Bousfield, and ended up going all the way to the wall. Rhymes got on his horse and bypassed the easy stand-up triple for a chance at an inside-the-park home run. The relay throw home was off the mark which caused Ole Miss catcher Stuart Turner to have to come up the line a bit, which resulted in Turner unintentionally taking out Rhymes at the knees, sending him head-over-heels.

  The Tigers leftfielder landed hard but still managed to touch home plate for the inside-the-park homer, which put LSU up 5-o at the time, en route to their 7-1 victory. The win gave 47-7 LSU 22 wins in the SEC , which tied the single season team record set in 1986 and 1997. Read more ›

   

• Touching military family reunion follows first pitch at Rays-Red Sox game

  Thursday night’s game between the Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox at Tropicana Field was going to be a big one for 9-year-old Alayna Adams, as she was selected to throw out the ceremonial first pitch, an honor she received from the U.S.O. because of her father, Lieutenant Colonel Will Adams, who has been serving overseas in Afghanistan for the better part of two years.

  Little did Alayna know that the her opening pitch was going to be small potatoes compared to what happened next.

  Moments after her pitch came up a few feet short and rolled into the waiting glove of the Rays catcher, the man behind the mask rose and revealed himself to be none other than Adams himself. • Patriots release defensive tackle Kyle Love shortly after Type-2 diabetes diagnosis

  New England defensive lineman Kyle Love started 25 games over the last two seasons for the Patriots, lining up as a nose tackle in the 3-4 defensive scheme and a defensive tackle in the 4-3. The Pats thought enough of his versatility and run stuffing abilities to lock him up with a 2-year extension last year, after making the team as an undrafted rookie free agent back in 2010.

  Love’s feel good story isn’t so feel good anymore, now that the team has released the 6-foot-1, 315-pounder shortly after he was diagnosed with Type-2 diabetes. As compared to the Type-1 variety of the disease, which is an autoimmune disorder where there is an absolute non-production of insulin, thus making the sufferer insulin dependent, Type-2 diabetes is usually caused by lifestyle and/or genetic factors, and can be treated (and sometimes cured) with changes in diet and exercise.
