• Little League umpire’s strikout call gives new meaning to the word showmanship (VIDEO)

  Sometimes it’s hard to stand out in a crowd, especially if you’re a Little League umpire in Rock Island, Illinois.  To most you’re just a random guy in khaki pants, a light blue shirt and a mask who’s out there calling balls and strikes with little to no fanfare.  So how does one set himself apart from the rest?

  With the most gloriously insane strikeout call in Little League history.

  OK, that may be a bit of hyperbole, but this guy’s patented punch out is equal parts hilarity and hot-dogging.  Is it a tad over the top? Perhaps, but you have to admire the showmanship, because that’s what it’s all about when you’re calling out a 10-year-old kid on a called third strike…showmanship.

• Attractive Korean singer throws out most unattractive ceremonial first pitch in history

  Jessica Jung is a singer for the South Korean pop group Girls’ Generation, a musical ensemble that is quite popular in their home country, and she was on hand to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before a game between LG vs. Samsung  in Korean Baseball Organization action.

  If you’ve already assumed that the pitch did not go well based on the picture and story headline, well step up and collect your prize, because you assumed correctly.

  But damned if Ms. Jung didn’t give it her best effort, and she does look pretty good throwing the ball straight down into the ground, barely 3-feet in front of her.  The pitch was terrible, but she looked gorgeous, so we’ll give her a pass.  Just next time maybe not pitch from the stretch Jessica…mmmkay? • Padres fan’s beer ends up with a foul ball in it, dude chugs it down anyway

  Of course the guy chugged that brew down despite having a baseball sitting in it.  The only way someone throws away a full beer is if they find a mouse or human foot floating in it.  A baseball with some dirt and pine tar on it is about as organic as it gets.

  So this Padres fan in the second row goes for a foul ball in the bottom of the 7th, and after the ball ricochets around for a bit, it ends up in the guy’s beer.  Padres announcer Dick Enberg and color analyst Mark Grant both understand the ramifications of having a foul ball end up in your beer—you must down that badboy, ball and all.
