• Watch Eddie Vedder and Chris Chelios enjoy some karaoke while Kerry Wood looks on (VIDEO)

  If you happened to be one of the lucky patrons hanging out at Stanley’s Kitchen & Tap in Lincoln Park this past Sunday, then you can attest that it was one of the greatest nights in the history of karaoke after Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder and retired NHL great Chris Chelios teamed up to handle The Band’s The Weight while recently retired Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood looked on.

  Vedder ended up on stage after one of the karaoke participants tried belting out Pearl Jam’s classic Alive.  The native Chicagoan joined the karaoke singer onstage and turned the song into a duet.  According to the Chicago Tribune (via Puck Daddy), Vedder belted out five tunes after commandeering the karaoke mic, including The Who’s Baba O’Riley and the aforementioned The Weight.  At some point he was joined onstage by Chelios and Wood, although the latter was merely a spectator. • Predators Ice Girl scoops up catfish off the ice barehanded like a boss (VIDEO)

  During first period action in Game 3 of the Predators-Coyotes playoff series a fan tossed a catfish on the ice following a Nashville goal as the Preds fans are wont to do.  An ice girl named Jenna sprung into action, skating out to where the catfish had been thrown and picking up the slimy creature without the use of gloves, a shovel, or plastic bag.

  In other words, like a boss.

  At one point it seems as if the catfish may still be alive because it appears to wiggle in Jenna’s supple yet secure hands, but unless the person responsible for tossing the fish on the ice brought in a large bucket or medium sized aquarium, chances are it was just an illusion created by the Preds ice girl’s hand movement.  And I doubt very much that arena security would allow a person to bring in an aquarium with a live catfish in it, unless they were Carrie Underwood or Burt Reynolds or some other bigshot like that. • Scottish youth hockey player banned from championship game for wearing bear suit

  If you think that headline is stupid, and it is, wait until you hear the story of 14-year-old Pavel Pliskov who was banned from participating in the championship game of the Scottish Under-14 Cup because he had the audacity to don the costume of Sam the Bear, the beloved mascot of the Fife Flyers hockey club, and, well, that’s about it.

  But that was enough for officials from the Scottish Ice Hockey Association, and they dropped the hammer on Pliskov with their ruling regarding his inclusion in the final game.  And if that wasn’t penalty enough, the Lithuanian born teen wasn’t allowed to join his mates on the ice for the  medal presentation after his Dundee team won the final game 6-0.
