• Rugby player’s horrific broken ankle might be the gnarliest of gnarly injuries

  Rugby is an inherently dangerous sport, yet serious injuries don’t seem to be all that commonplace, considering you have brutish men hitting and tackling each other full force without a lick of protective equipment.  Yet brutal injuries do occur, and this one from the National Rugby League in Australia ranks right up there with the most horrific sports injuries ever witnessed.

  Although it’s hard to make out in this picture, that strange lump on the inside of the right ankle of fallen Brisbane Broncos player Jharal Yow Yeh is, in fact, his bone.  Yow Yeh suffered a compound fracture following  a mid-air collision with a South Sydney Rabbitohs player, meaning the only thing preventing you from seeing Jharel’s protruding ankle bone is a thin layer of cotton.  If you weren’t a big fan of socks before, you most assuredly are now.   Who doesn’t love a souvenir, especially one signed by one of the world’s top tennis players?  Nobody, that’s who.  But is it worth embarrassing yourself, and causing potential harm to your head, neck and face, just to catch an autographed tennis ball thrown by Rafael Nadal?

  Apparently it is.

  Check out this tennis fan who tries catching a signed ball tossed by Nadal following a match at Indian Wells.  Not only does he not get his prized possession, he ends up eating some court following his hilarious misstep, much to the chagrin of Nadal. Read more ›

   

• Caroline Wozniacki’s prank on Maria Sharapova doesn’t go according to plan

  Caroline Wozniacki is a world class tennis player, girlfriend of PGA golfer Rory McIlroy, and apparently a bit of a prankster.  She seems to be pretty good at the first two items on that list, but her pranking may need a bit of work, after this failed practical joke attempt on Maria Sharapova at the  BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.

  The prank seem simple enough—pop a balloon while the unsuspecting Sharapova is being interviewed—but for some reason the playful Wozniacki can’t seem to execute the most important part of her nefarious plan.  She jumps on it, stomps on it, and still can’t pop the balloon, even after she gets caught in the act by Sharapova.  They should build airplanes and space stations out of this balloon and it’s seemingly indestructible material. • Better race: Daytona 500 or Junior and Keselowski’s footrace to a Port-O-Potty?

  You probably missed this race-within-a-race during Monday night’s Daytona 500, what with the giant fireball caused by Juan Pablo Montoya rear-ending a jet dryer full of fuel.  But with the race on hold for two hours while workers cleaned up the Montoya mess, leave it to Brad Keselowski and Dale Earnhardt Jr. to both realize they had to visit the little driver’s room at the same time.

  Of course this meant they had to engage in a footrace of epic proportions to the nearest available portable toilet.  Junior ended up the victor after drafting Keselowski for most of the race, then slightly bumping him when the two neared the Port-O-Potty.  Read more ›

  Nearly three years into the existence of this site and we finally have our first snooker post.  Seems about right to me.

  The 2012 World Open of snooker is currently underway in Haikou, China, a fact I’m sure most of you probably didn’t know.  During a match between Thailand’s Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon and England’s Robert Milkins, Thirapongpaiboon executed what is arguably the flukiest shot in snooker history, as his final shot on the black ball jumped off the table, rode the rail without falling, and ended up dropping right into the corner pocket.
