Rugby player’s horrific broken ankle might be the gnarliest of gnarly injuries
Rugby is an inherently dangerous sport, yet serious injuries don’t seem to be all that commonplace, considering you have brutish men hitting and tackling each other full force without a lick of protective equipment. Yet brutal injuries do occur, and this one from the National Rugby League in Australia ranks right up there with the most horrific sports injuries ever witnessed.
Although it’s hard to make out in this picture, that strange lump on the inside of the right ankle of fallen Brisbane Broncos player Jharal Yow Yeh is, in fact, his bone. Yow Yeh suffered a compound fracture following a mid-air collision with a South Sydney Rabbitohs player, meaning the only thing preventing you from seeing Jharel’s protruding ankle bone is a thin layer of cotton.
