• Russian linesman loses mind, attacks player, gets lifetime ban for his efforts

  Russian linesman Musa Kadyrov was given a lifetime ban by the Football Federation of the Chechen Republic after he went ballistic and attacked 18-year-old Ilya Krichmar following the final whistle of a Russian Premier League match between Terek Grozny and Amkar Perm. In his fit of rage Kadyrov shoved the Amkar player to the ground before connecting on a violent kick to the downed Krichmar’s ribs before players from both teams intervened.

  Here’s yet another stellar article from guest blogger Matt Snider, a fine young man seeking his Master’s degree in Sports Management, which makes him the smartest person ever to write for this site by far. Matt is a highly skilled writer, having honed his craft at his blog Sideline Sports, and furthered his love of sports interning at a local sports radio station. Apparently Matt also loves the Boise State Broncos, long walks on the beach, rainy days, and the collected works of Eudora Welty.

  As preparations continue for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, a report from The Sun claims that seats for obese fans will be included in at least one of the stadiums being used in the tournament.  The report states that these “obese seats” will be twice as wide as a standard seat, and will be reinforced to support even the biggest of fans, both literally and figuratively.  The cheapest disabled tickets are in the lower sections of the stadium and will be $57, and will be good for wheelchair users, mobility impaired people, and now possibly obese people.

  Robbie Rogers, a midfielder who had 18 caps for the United States men’s national soccer team as well as a stint with Leeds United, has decided at 25-years-old to step away from the game of soccer. What reason could this talented young man have to make the decision to leave the game he loves?

  Because he’s gay.

  Rogers bravely came out today via his personal blog, writing the stirring and honest post in which he explained his hasty decision to suspend his soccer career, as well as coming to terms with his sexuality. It’s a long read but well worth the time, however, at the time of writing this post the site seems to be down. No doubt the site has crashed from a flood of traffic since word of Rogers’ uplifting story went viral.
