Ah the life of the backup quarterback. They’re equal parts cheerleader and assistant quarterbacks coach, with the emergency preparedness of a noble boy scout, and while most don’t get to see any action outside of garbage time, at least they are paid handsomely for their efforts.
But every once in a while the unthinkable happens, and the opportunity arises during a crucial moment in a game when, thanks to injury, the backup QB is called upon to take over for the starter and lead his team to victory. Backup QBs live for this moment, so when it actually happens, you can understand why they might be a bit distracted.
Take Bills backup Tyler Thigpen for instance. During the game in Toronto against the Washington Redskins, starting QB Ryan Fitzpatrick was the recipient of a rather nasty hit from Skins LB London Fletcher.
