We’ve all seen examples of fandom going a bit too far, but this is just inexcusable and disgusting behavior. The Packers saw their undefeated season go up in smoke on Sunday after a 19-14 loss at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs. Most Green Bay fans, while undoubtedly pissed that their team lost, probably swore a few times, maybe kicked a chair, but that was probably the extent of their outward expression of anger, especially when you figure that most fans understand that an undefeated season was a longshot at best, and that their beloved team already has a playoff spot locked up. For a guy who claims he’s not a dirty player, Lions DT Ndamukong Suh sure doesn’t act like it. His latest transgression, stomping on the arm of Packers guard Evan Dietrich-Smith, was not only a stupid move by the talented, yet hot-headed Suh, but it also cost his team dearly as the Detroit defensive tackle was tossed from the game.
Here’s how it went down—with his team trailing 7-0, and Green Bay facing 3rd and goal, Suh and Dietrich-Smith get tangled up and both players fall to the turf. It was a clean block by the Green Bay guard, but for some reason Suh took exception, and proceeded to push Dietrich-Smith’s head into the Ford Field turf repeatedly, before standing up and deliberately stomping on the downed Packers player’s arm. The NFL season opened tonight at Lambeau Field with the hometown Green Bay Packers taking on the New Orleans Saints, in a matchup of the last two Super Bowl winners. Both teams are driven by high powered offenses, so you know that this had all the makings of a shootout.
And they didn’t disappoint.
At the end of three quarters the Packers lead the Saints by a score of 35-27. Both quarterbacks, Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers and New Orleans’ Drew Brees, have looked exceptional, but the highlight of the night belongs to the Packers rookie WR/KR Randall Cobb, who tied the NFL record for longest kick return with this unbelievable 108-yarder.

No, that is not some gaudy Green Bay Packers paper weight—it’s the world’s first glimpse of the Pack’s Super Bowl XLV ring. This one belongs to LB Clay Matthews, and according to his Twitter account, this bad boy is encrusted with 109 diamonds, and has the reflective power of 1000 suns. OK, that may be a bit of hyperbole on my part, but you have to admit, it is pretty flashy, even for a Super Bowl ring.
But the real question is, why 109 diamonds, and not, say, 100, or 110, or some other nice round number?
