• VIDEO: Runaway Golf Carts at Cowboys Stadium Can be a Real Health Hazard

  Cowboys Stadium was the site of the 5A Division II State High School Championship game Saturday night, which saw  Spring Dekaney defeat Cibolo Steele 34-14.  Dekaney coach Willie Amendola was being interviewed at midfield following the game, when he, along with photographers, reporters, and a cameraman, were mowed down by an unmanned golf cart.  Four of the eight people run down by the runaway cart were treated for minor injuries at the stadium, while one was transported to hospital for further treatment (Ed note: the person taken to hospital was released Sunday morning after X-rays showed no broken bones in his foot or ankle). • VIDEO: HS Football Player Shows Off a Dive Better Suited for a Soccer Pitch

  In a battle of high school football teams in California, the visiting Gunn Titans demolished the host Lynbrook Vikings 54-23.  As often happens during a blowout, things got a bit chippy between the two teams, culminating in a straight right hand to the helmet of a Lynbrook defender courtesy of Gunn receiver Skyler Larson, who took exception to being slammed to the turf by the Vikings defender following his touchdown catch.

  Now, if you’ve ever punched someone wearing a football helmet, chances are you did more damage to your hand than you did to your opponent’s well-protected head.  Read more ›

• VIDEO: High School Running Back Dives in For Touchdown…From 5-Yard Line

  Kimlon “KJ” Dillon is a senior running back from Apopka High in Florida, and in his school’s game against West Orange High, pulled off one of the most amazing touchdowns you’ll probably ever see.  Unless you’ve come across other instances of running backs diving in from the 5-yard line for a TD.  If you have, then I suggest you move along, because there’s nothing for you here.

  Yes, Dillon takes off from the five and soars through the air with the greatest of ease for the improbable score.  Sure, the defender helped him along a bit, but still, it doesn’t take away from the majesty of seeing the Apopka footballer flying across the night sky like some great touchdown scoring bird.

• Watch this High School Running Back Absolutely Destroy this Defensive Lineman

  It’s like this kid is the second coming of Earl Campbell or something.  Usually the defensive players are dishing out the helmet jarring, bone rattling hits, not the other way around.

  But this time the tables are turned, and this defensive lineman gets knocked into next week by this powerhouse of a running back, nearly losing his head in the process.  Nice work though by No. 63 to bust through the offensive line to get in the backfield…unfortunately for him  he ran straight into the beast, and the beast devoured him.

  On the bright side, the defender did slow up the runner enough for his teammates to hold him to zero yards on the play.  That counts for something…right?  You know, cup half full and all that crap. Read more ›

   

• High School Football Game Postponed Because of…Fire Ants?

  A high school football game in South Carolina was postponed Friday, in what is most likely the first fire ant related postponement in football history.  Apparently these critters are bad news, as their stings release a venom that causes pain, irritation, and possible infection at the sting sites.

  The referee for the Hunter-Kinard-Tyler/Calhoun County game, Steve Hook, discovered around 15-20 large, active fire ant mounds and decided to hold off on having the two teams play, citing safety issues for players, coaches, and officials.

• Autistic High Schooler Suspended 10 Days for “Banana Man” Halftime Stunt

  This is it America, I’m completely washing my hands of you.  You’ve finally pushed me too far with this latest act of ridiculous stupidity.  Suspending a high school student 10 days for pulling off a harmless stunt at halftime of a football game is the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back.

  Brian Thompson is a 14-year-old student at Colonial Forge High School in Stafford, Va., who thought it’d be good for a larf to dress up in a banana costume and run down the sidelines at a school football game.  Not during the game mind you, but at halftime, making his harmless prank even that much more harmless.

  Students went wild, as they should, because nothing is quite as funny as seeing one of your own tearing down the sidelines in a banana costume.  Unless it’s a zucchini costume—just because zucchini is a much more hilarious word than banana. Read more ›

   

• “You Mad Bro?” Sign at High School Football Game Deemed Racial Intimidation

  Really America…really?  Has it come to this, that the word “bro” is considered to be racist, even when it’s used as part of an Internet meme that’s been around for years?

  Apparently it has, at least in parts of Ohio.  Near the end of a high school football game between Kirtland and Painesville Harvey, a group of Kirtland students and parents raised a sign that read “You Mad Bro?” which, for the uninformed, is a popular meme designed “to make a raging person rage even more by asking the most ironic question”, as per the Urban Dictionary.

  Some people took offense to the sign, not because it was a show of poor sportsmanship, but because of it’s racial undertones.

• High Schoolers Honor Recently Deceased Friend with TD Celebration, Get Penalized

  There are different levels of touchdown celebrations, ranging from excessive, to quietly understated.  The excessive ones seem to get flagged, and in the case of the NFL, occasionally fined, which is alright with me.  Showboating is fine, but it crosses the line when it starts becoming insulting to the other team.

  This celebration, by a couple of players from Louisville (Ohio) High is neither disrespectful or insulting, but rather was a touching tribute to a recently deceased friend.  At least that’s what many people thought.  The referee however, thought otherwise.

  WR Alex Schooley had just scored a late touchdown to give Louisville a 26-24 lead over Walsh Jesuit.  Schooley met teammate Gavin Lovejoy in the end zone, and the pair pointed to the skies to honor a friend of theirs, Dom Wilgus, who died just days earlier in a car accident. A very classy and touching gesture.

  The referee decided that their celebration was excessive and flagged Louisville because “the players’ heavenward point was considered an action that drew attention to themselves.”  Read more ›

   

• Video: High School Football Team Performs a Glee Inspired Dance Number

  As part of a video competition during the Marsh Hoosier Classic at Lucas Oil stadium, the Decatur Central High School varsity football team performed their own version of Glee’s version of Beyonce’s version of Put a Ring on It.  Unfortunately I’m not up on pop culture or today’s music, so I have no idea what the last two parts of that sentence mean.
