• This kid’s Matt Bonner haircut may land him in hot water with his school when it should be celebrated

  The bond between gingers is an unbreakable, everlasting bond that transcends space and time, so it comes as no surprise that when middle schooler Patrick Gonzalez wanted to show off his love for his hometown San Antonio Spurs, he chose to honor the player he admires most—fellow ginger Matt Bonner, aka the Red Rocket.

  The San Antonio superfan had the image of the Spurs center preparing to launch a 3-pointer shaved into the back of his head, an act that while noble and  unique may land him in trouble with school officials because Gonzalez’s “Bonner Cut” has been deemed a distraction.  Officials for Judson I.S.D. have said on record that if Gonzalez comes to school on Thursday with his awesome haircut in tact he may be in line for an in-school suspension. • Amar’e Stoudemire offers Shane Battier a hand to get up only to rescind the offer

  Knicks forward Amar’e Stoudemire had himself quite the playoff series against the Heat, didn’t he?  Tearing his hand open after punching the glass case enclosure for a fire extinguisher, then missing Game 3 because of his stupidity, and finally fouling out in Game 5 after being called for an offensive foul on Shane Battier.  However, what Stoudemire did to Battier after the foul may help the Knicks star redeem himself for his recent transgressions.

  After bowling over Battier, Amar’e offers his hand to the fallen Heat forward in order to help him back to his feet, a gesture that Battier willingly accepts, until Stoudemire pulls his hand away in a sweet psych move to leave Battier hanging.

  A bit of a dick move by Stoudemire, or a little good-natured gamesmanship by the New York player?  I mean, it was pretty funny, and I’m sure Battier is cool enough to laugh it off, just as I’m sure Stoudemire was aware that his night was over, so why not get one last shot in against an opponent. • Disoriented woman walks onto court during play of Lakers-Nuggets game

  A very strange, very bizarre incident took place tonight during Game 4 of the Lakers-Nuggets playoff series when a seemingly disoriented woman wandered out onto the court right in the middle of game action.  Play was immediately stopped as the bewildered fan was escorted off the court before play resumed.

  On the surface it seems like a fan sitting courtside may have had a bit too much to drink and decided not to bother waiting for the game to finish before asking for some players autographs.  But no, this woman seems to have a history with the Nuggets and their players, specifically former Nugget Kenyon Martin, who now plays with the Clippers.   Most NBA players will do just about anything to gain an advantage in the heat of battle, and the Heat’s Dwyane Wade is no exception.  When Wade comes across Knicks guard Mike Bibby’s wayward shoe early in the second quarter of Game 2 of the Heat/Knicks playoff series, he does the only thing appropriate for the situation—he tossed said shoe into the stands.

  Well, the first row anyway.  Being shoeless didn’t seem to bother Bibby, as he made the outlet pass to J.R. Smith (who completed a nice little alley-oop to Tyson Chandler) before retrieving his sneaker. Read more ›

• ESPN’s terrific new ad features Michael Jordan, just not THAT Michael Jordan

  Having an ordinary name that is neither famous nor exciting, I have no idea what it must be like for those people that share their name with a celebrity.  Does it get you perks that would normally be reserved only for the rich and famous, or does it get you nothing but disappointing looks from people hoping that it’s that person that’s not you.

  That exact scenario is the premise of ESPN’s new “It’s Not Crazy, It’s Sports” campaign, and in this commercial Michael Jordan, a man who seems to be the exact opposite of THE Michael Jordan, is met with disapproving reactions from deflated people who were expecting the retired basketball star, only to find a balding, paunchy, accountant-type fellow with glasses and a pronounced lack of hoops skills and tongue wagging. • Here’s Blake Griffin’s ridiculous circus shot that didn’t count for squat (VIDEO)

  Late in the third quarter of the Clippers 109-94 win over the Kings, Blake Griffin got away on a partial fast-break that would have led to an easy basket had Sacramento forward Donte Green not flagrantly fouled the streaking Griffin, knocking him to the floor.  As he’s going down in a heap Griffin throws up a prayer of an awkward shot that lo and behold goes in, yet, when all is said and done, doesn’t count for squat because the refs ruled that Green’s foul occurred before the shot.

  Still, fortuitous shot or not, this is just further proof that Blake Griffin is very good at basketball.
