• Here’s the Jaguars mascot nailing the 17th hole island green at TPC Sawgrass in full costume

  One of the more daunting shots in golf is hitting the island green at No.17 during The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.  The vast majority of PGA pros have no problem sticking it on the green due to their exceptional skill level, but I bet none of them have ever hit the green while wearing a mascot outfit like Chris Dvorak did this past weekend.

  Who’s Chris Dvorak you ask?  He’s the rather athletic gentleman who has donned the costume of Jaxson de Ville, the Jags mascot, since 1996.  Did I mention Dvorak has a 2 handicap?  Yeah, there’s that too.

  During Wednesday’s practice round Dvorak caddied for Jim Furyk on the back nine, and when their group reached the 17th, Dvorak was given a challenge by Andres Romero’s caddie that he couldn’t’ hit the island green dressed as Jaxson de Ville.  As the daredevil kids say these days, challenge accepted. • Brian Gay’s troubles at the RBC Heritage include water, sand, and the odd gator

  Hitting a ball near a water hazard in Hilton Head, South Carolina, site of this week’s RBC Heritage, is a dicey proposition, as golfer Brian Gay found out when his third shot landed near a pond on the par-5 15th hole, and a resident alligator came up on land to see what all the fuss was about.  Gay wasn’t down with messing with the 10-foot gator, but his caddie, Kip Henley, had no problems mixing it up with the large reptile, using only a rake and his ginormous testicles for protection.

• Here are six moments that made Sunday at the 2012 Masters truly memorable

  In case you missed it yesterday, Bubba Watson won the 2012 Masters in a two-hole playoff over South African Louis Oosthuizen to capture the first major championship of his career.  Not only is Watson the first man named Bubba to win the tournament (research pending), but damn will he look good cruising around town in his original General Lee while wearing his brand new green jacket.

  But Watson’s win in itself was just one of the highlights of Sunday at the Masters.  And if you were one of the unlucky few who missed the tourney’s final day, then you missed quite a bit.  There were amazing shots, emotions flowing like liquid cheese, and an awkward handshake that didn’t take. • Since when is being a PGA cameraman the world’s most dangerous job?

  Since Dustin Johnson started wailing shots at the poor bastards perched on a camera tower, that’s when.

  Johnson’s errant tee shot on No.18 at the WGC-Cadillac Championship was so far off the mark that it ended up nailing the camera crane just a few feet below the cameraman stationed atop it.  No doubt that the defenseless camera operator was carrying a brickload in his pants once he realized that a golf ball was flying directly at him at 100 mph, and his only course of action was to curl up in the fetal position and brace for impact, or dive off the tower and hope to land on a group of pudgy golf enthusiasts.

• According to Hank Haney, Tiger Woods nearly quit golf to become a Navy SEAL

  This may be the most unbelievable item you will read today, but according to an excerpt from Hank Haney’s new book, the Tiger Woods tell-all The Big Miss, Eldrick contemplated giving up his golf career to follow in his father’s footsteps by joining the prestigious Navy SEALS.  Tiger’s late father Earl was a Green Beret who served two tours of duty in Vietnam.

• Bubba Watson actually wore this misletoe belt buckle to the WM Phoenix Open

  First he buys the General Lee (complete with “Dixie” horn), and now Bubba Watson was caught at the Waste Management Phoenix Open sporting this mistletoe belt buckle.  Guaranteed he has the matching “Kiss Me Under the Mistletoe” shirt with an arrow pointing down to his crotch to complete the ensemble.
