• Pittsburgh Steelers new throwback uniforms are an assault on good taste

  The Pittsburgh Steelers unveiled the throwback jerseys they’ll be sporting for the upcoming 2012 NFL season, and this time around they went with the 1934 version of their uniforms.  The team will be wearing their 80th anniversary throwback uniform for two games, and with any luck, neither of which will be broadcast on national TV.  Back in those days the Steelers were known as the Pirates, zeppelins were a popular form of transportation, and sports fashion was an afterthought.

  How else do you explain these horrid throwbacks as modeled by Isaac Redman?  The stripes are bad enough—unless bumble bees as fashion icons were the thing back in the 30s—but what is up with those tiled numbers?  Seriously, these things are a bigger disaster than the Hindenburg.

• This Touchback in the Broncos-Steelers Game Put the Wild in Wild Card Weekend

  Only slightly less amazing than the Broncos upsetting the Steelers in their AFC Wild Card matchup on Sunday was the opening kickoff to the game itself.  Trust me when I say that you’ve never seen a touchback like this.

  Denver K Matt Prater boots the ball to a waiting Antonio Brown, but Prater’s huge leg causes the kickoff to nail the crossbar cleanly before rolling out and resting… at the 20-yard line.  It’s like the football (or a higher power maybe?) was saying to the refs, “Here, let me get that for ya fellas.”

• Denver Establishment Uses Bar Sign to Take a Not-So-Subtle Shot at Big Ben

  The Steelers travel to Denver Sunday to take on the Broncos in their AFC Wild Card matchup, and one local establishment, Boone’s Tavern, has gone and used their bar’s sign to poke a little fun at Pittsburgh QB Ben Roethlisberger’s past indiscretions, as they are wont to do when teams visit the hometown Broncos.

• VIDEO: Troy Polamalu Poses as a Wax Figure to Scare Unsuspecting Fans

  Steelers safety Troy Polamalu recently took time out of his busy schedule to spend the day at Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in Hollywood, where he pretended to be a wax figure of himself, allowing unsuspecting fans to pose with him before scaring the bejeesus out of them.

  Sounds like an hilarious premise.  No really, it does.  Sorry if that came across as sarcastic.

  According to Steelers Depot, Polamalu’s gag was part of a Head & Shoulders promotion.  Polamalu is one of the dandruff shampoo’s celebrity spokespeople, and in 2010 Head & Shoulders parent company, Procter & Gamble, insured the Pittsburgh star’s luscious locks with Lloyd’s of London for a cool $1 million.

• Pretty Sure Steelers LB James Harrison Will be a Pirate for Halloween

  Pittsburgh Steelers LB James Harrison had surgery to repair a fractured orbital bone that he injured in the 17-10 loss to the Houston Texans.  Harrison tweeted this photo of himself, and went on to say that he now feels like a pirate.

• Steelers James Harrison Goes Off on a Prodigious Rant Against the Whole NFL

  Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison, the 2008 AP Defensive Player of the Year, recently sat down for an interview with Men’s Journal.  I say interview, but after hearing what Harrison had to say about NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, I’d say it was more of an unfiltered rant than a pleasant one-on-one with the Men’s Journal reporter.

  While Harrison has previously let it be known that he harbors nothing but ill-will towards Goodell, this time he takes the filter off and really lets the unpleasantries fly.

• Steelers Terrible Towel Becomes Equally Terrible Tattoo

  I’m not sure longtime Steelers broadcaster Myron Cope had this in mind when he created the “Terrible Towel” back in 1975.  At least this guy never has to worry about being without his towel whenever the need to wave it arises, although the only time this thing will ever actually “wave” will be in 40 years or so when a stiff breeze catches his saggy, liver-spotted arm skin.   I’ve grown to love Steelers DE Brett Keisel’s mammoth beard almost as much as I love a cold beer on a hot Christmas morning.  Since deciding to grow his facial hair during the 2010 minicamps, Keisel’s beard has taken on a life of its own.  The length, the thickness, the way it made him look like one of the guys from ZZ Top—yep, Keisel’s beard was impressive to say the least, and made him look like a total badass in the process. • 15-Foot Snow Lombardi Trophy More Impressive Than the Real Thing

  That thing is as ginormous as it is awesome, and if you ask me, it’s way better than the real Vince Lombardi Trophy because this one is made of snow…and love.  Anybody can just slap together 7-pounds of sterling silver and form it into a trophy.  But this, this takes dedication, ingenuity, and lots of the white stuff.
