• Dutch soccer player being consoled by his daughter following relegation is just the sweetest thing

  When they’re not bleeding you dry for money, prematurely aging you with worry, or actively destroying every nice thing you own, kids can be pretty awesome.  They tend to keep things in perspective a lot better than us adults can, in their own sweet and innocent way.

  Pictured here is footballer Rogier Meijer moments after his De Graafschap team was relegated from the Eredivisie, the highest football league in the Netherlands, following a 1-1 draw with FC Den Bosch.  As you can tell the Dutch midfielder is absolutely devastated over what has transpired with his soccer club, and he sits on the pitch looking as forlorn as a person can be.

  Enter Saar, his young daughter, clad in a custom De Graafschap jersey with her dad’s number and her name on the back.  The precocious little cutie rushes out to console her father in a scene that will melt even the most hardened of hearts.  Honestly, it’s so adorable that the normal adjectives for such a moment won’t do it justice…it can only be described as adoracute. • Soccer player responds to opponent’s racial slur with a swift kick to the junk

  In SOCCER

  Mind you, the alleged racial slur took place in a previously played match between Turkish clubs Trabzonspor and Fenerbahce, but when it comes to derogatory and hateful comments about the color of one’s skin, people have long memories.

  Trabzonspor midfielder Didier Zokora claimed that Fenerbahce’s Emre Belozoglu insulted him with a racial slur when the two clubs met in April.  Belozoglu was given a two match ban, a penalty that apparently wasn’t harsh enough for Zokora’s liking, so the Ivory Coast player took it upon himself to dole out some justice of his own when the two teams met up again recently.

  Let’s just say that Zokora’s brand of justice was a lot more painful than sitting out two games, thanks to a well placed kick to Belozoglu’s crotch. Read more ›

   

• Granada player nails ref in the head with plastic bottle following loss to Real Madrid

  Real Madrid had already wrapped up the La Liga championship when it faced off against Granada this past Saturday, and came away with a 2-1 victory thanks to an own goal in extra time.  The loss put Granada at risk of relegation, which obviously didn’t sit well with their players, as did the perceived questionable refereeing, which led to one player chucking a plastic bottle and hitting the ref square in the side of the head.

  Naturally this led to the referees being escorted out of the stadium by the police, lest any more Granada players had the bright idea to throw something at the officials, like a set of keys, crowbar or park bench.

  While it’s unclear whether the bottle projectile was Powerade or Gatorade, which are both equally delicious and refreshing by the way, the identity of the bottle thrower from the Granada squad isn’t.  Dani Benitez, pictured,  is the player in question, and no doubt he’ll be facing a rather hefty suspension for his reckless and stupid actions. • Sion’s Geoffrey Serey Die critiques ball boy’s performance with a slap to the face

  Quite the bizarre moment took place following last place FC Sion’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Lausanne this past Wednesday, when Sion midfielder Geoffrey Serey Die went over to the sidelines to voice his displeasure with one of the Lausanne ballboys, and by “voice his displeasure” I mean he gave the young man an open hand slap to the face while berating him for his perceived poor performance.

  Sure she may have naturally curly hair, pigtails, and dimples that will melt your heart, but this little 4-year-old soccer player is an animal when she’s on the pitch, as she lays out one of the players on the opposing team with a devastating bodycheck just seconds into the match.

  Does she help her fallen opponent back to his feet?  Nope, she wipes off her hands in a moment of triumph.  I’d be willing to guess she went after this kid’s post-game orange slices as well, because after that hit she totally owned him and all his worldly possessions. Read more ›

   

• Scottish soccer fans vicious brawl left one combatant an ear short

  Like this, only with more severed ears...

  Following last month’s Scottish Cup match between Ayr United and Hibernian at Somerset Park that ended in a draw, a vicious brawl broke out between rival fans hooligans that led to much mayhem, bloodshed, and one severed ear.

  Five men were arrested on Tuesday for their involvement in the melee that took place March 10, to go along with the six that were picked up the day of the fight.  No word on whether any of these 11 combatants were the bloke who had his ear torn off, but I’m pretty sure he’d be easy to pick out…he’d be the one not able to wear glasses.
